Mammut Loopinsulation Repurposes Industrial Rope Production Scraps
Laura McQuarrie — September 17, 2024 — Eco
In preparation for the 2024 winter season, Mammut introduced Mammut Loopinsulation, an innovative insulation made from production scraps generated during industrial rope manufacturing. To create this groundbreaking insulation, Mammut collaborated with Austrian rope manufacturer Teufelberger and uses a mechanical recycling process without chemicals to turn scraps into high-quality insulation.
A 2018 analysis of Mammut's carbon footprint revealed that 13% of the company's CO2 emissions came from rope manufacturing. In response, the Swiss mountain sports outfitter began researching repurposing rope production scraps, which ultimately led to the new Loopinsulation technology.
"With Mammut Loopinsulation, we are embracing a circular and resource-conscious approach to material reuse," says Helena Theba, Material Management Lead at Mammut, "This is a critical step toward the future of sustainable outdoor clothing."
