The 'Lolistraw' is a new invention from Loliware, which produces edible cups made from a fruit leather-like material. As its name suggests, Lolistraw is now aiming to tackle the many issues that single-use plastic straws cause.
The Plastic Pollution Coalition estimates that more than 500 million single-use plastic straws are used each day in the United States alone, but consumers are beginning to realize the impact these throw-away plastics have on our health, the environment and the oceans.
Loliware has plans to produce the edible, compostable, seaweed-based Lolistraw in clear, colored and flavored versions, all of which boast the same look, feel and experience of plastic. One of the founders of Loliware, Chelsea Briganti says: "You can imagine drinking your cold-brewed coffee with a vanilla straw or a caramel straw," and notes the plastic straw replacement is not about doing away with straws entirely, but offering an experience that's more fun and sustainable at the same time.
