At first glance, and perhaps third or even fourth, these lifelike butterfly sculptures are sure to deceive people into thinking that they are the real deal. Yet in place of powdery wings and waving antenna, they are made up of various textiles and embroidery techniques. Yet it is the detail of the latter that makes the creations so strikingly deceptive.
Created by Yumi Okita, an artist based in North Carolina, these lifelike butterfly sculptures involve many different species, perhaps even a few that have been made up. Whether dark pink with blue dots, blue with black tips or an assortment of more than two colors, the lifelike butterfly sculptures are enchanting. It is incredible to see that Okita manages to create convincing shades and patterns as well. Place them outdoors and people will think they have spotted real butterflies.
