FedEx announced a deal with Nuro to bolster its last-mile technology with a multi-year and multi-phase agreement, that will have Nuro test autonomous delivery vehicles.
Testing for the last-mile technology will start in Housten and the deal will allow FedEx to look at potential use cases with high value, including multi-stop and appointment deliveries. Testing will begin in April and will span several zip codes in Houston.
In a press release, FedEx credits the increased demand for autonomous vehicles in part to the growth of e-commerce.
“We are excited to collaborate with an industry leader like Nuro as we continue to explore the use of autonomous technologies within our operations," said Rebecca Yeung, the Vice President of advanced technology and innovation at FedEx.
