Laphroaig launched an experimental series in 2023 with Elements 1.0 and in 2024, Elements 2.0 has been introduced to showcase the impact of an extended fermentation period. This experimental whisky uses longer fermentations, up to almost five full days in the tun, totaling 115 hours, for a whiskey that's fruitier yet retains the peaty character of a single malt.
Elements 2.0 is said to have aromas of stewed apples, vanilla custard and zesty orange peel with subtle peaty notes on the nose, and green apples, honey and cream soda are some of the notes that are perceptible on the palate.
This experimental expression made with more than double the typical fermentation period will be available in June from select specialist retailers.
