Flyer launched a new e-bike titled the 'L885.' What is unique about the L885 is that, rather than focusing on off-roading, range, or speed, Flyer sought to focus on cargo capacity and maximum payload. As a result, the L885 is nearly capable of replacing a car's amount of storage through its multiple mounting racks and its heavy 181kg, or nearly 400lb payload capacity.
The bike features a center rear rack with two lower racks on the sides. The rear rack is modular with the option of carrying additional passengers, such as children, and using the lower rack as a footrest, allowing customers to attach a large storage compartment on the rear. Regardless of the choice, though, there is a second modular rack above the front wheel, allowing for even more storage compartments. According to Flyer, this e-bike is perfect for city commuters who want to carry large payloads without always having to bring a car.
The bike is powered by a 500-watt motor and supplied by a 687-Wh battery resulting in a 50-mile range and an adjustable max speed that will vary greatly based on payload weight.

Trend Themes
1. Expansive Cargo Bikes - Expanding the cargo bike market by focusing on storage capacity encourages cargo-focused e-bikes rather than off-road or speed
2. Modular Racks for Bikes - Increasing the modular storage units for bikes enables them to carry heavy loads up to 181kg, which could disrupt both bike and cargo industry.
3. Electric Bikes for Heavy Payloads - Developing electric bikes that can take heavy loads without impacting performance could signal a shift in the bike industry toward more efficient cargo bikes.
Industry Implications
1. Transportation Industry - Cargo e-bikes could disrupt the transportation industry by offering an alternative to cars that can carry similar amounts of cargo.
2. Bike Industry - Bike manufacturers that shift their focus towards cargo bikes could see a rise in demand and sales.
3. Delivery Industry - Delivery companies looking for a greener solution to package delivery could benefit from using cargo e-bikes for their local deliveries.
