Kentucky Derby Poster is Unveiled in Louisville

The Kentucky Derby will run for the 136th time this year. Held the first Saturday in May in Louisville, Kentucky (my home town), the horse race draws international names, as well as home town faces.
Recently, the Kentucky Derby poster contest has asked local artists to capture the essence of America’s oldest continually running sporting event.
The poster submitted by James Thornton of Oz Publishing was this year’s winning design and features a fleur-de-lis and horses coming around the final turn.
The poster is fantastic for sure, but even better is the fact that I am writing about the Kentucky Derby right now. I mean it’s only THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR. No big deal.
