Julianne Swartz's Placements pictures pair images of the outdoors together. Swartz has done so by way of small mirrors that she holds in her palm, offering viewers a look at the scenic reflections.
These paired snapshots of water, sand, sky, cloud and moon are quite moving, and have moreover allowed her to relay differing vantage points all at once.
Placements is largely inspired by artist Robert Smithson who also worked with a series of mirrors during the 1960s via his Displacement pieces. She however remains intent on incorporating multiple motifs, "...the mirror in a sense is both the physical mirror and the reflection: the mirror as a concept and abstraction; then the mirror as a fact..."
