Julia Barello’s ‘Swoop’ installations are symbolically designed pieces made out of MRI films and x-rays. She has created galactic spirals using cut-out shapes of birds and a variety of different leaves.
What makes this project so distinctive is not only the materials she chose to use, which are quite out of the ordinary, but also the visual appeal it gives off. From afar it looks like a spiral, and once you are up close it looks like a flock of birds. It seems as if the artist is trying to portray the correlation between nature and science, which is truly beautiful.
The MRI films and x-rays are all hand-cut and died in multiple colors in order to give the installations a bolder effect. They are then carefully placed and pinned on the wall with steel or silver pins.
