The InterContinental Davos Hotel by Oikios Features Geometric Details
Jana Pijak — May 28, 2014 — World
The InterContinental Davos Hotel features a weaved facade that is reminiscent of traditional sci-fi imagery. Inspired by retro, alpine village architecture, Munich-based design studio Oikios opted for a curved structural design that features geometric facade elements.
Oikios' InterContinental Davos Hotel is surrounded by the sublime landscape of the Swiss Alps. Oliver Hofmeister, managing director and architect at Oikios aimed to recreate the traditional hotel structure with his daring and visually striking design. According to the architect, the building's height was 'tall enough to be considered a skyscraper, but its design challenges the traditional planes one is accustomed to seeing when looking at a tall structure'.
The studio's end result is an oval structure that is a nod to retro futurism. Fusing 60s alpine architecture with futuristic sci-fi imagery, the curvilinear hotel is a mountainside resort few won't want to visit.
