Intel's 'XeSS' Feature Will Come to its 'Arc' Series GPUs
Colin Smith — March 31, 2022 — Business
Intel has announced 'Intel XeSS,' its first-party AI-powered upscaling technology that will come to its new 'Arc' series of graphics processing units (GPUs). XeSS, which stands for 'Xe Super Sampling,' allows users to output an improved image quality without a large cost of performance. This feature is perfect for Intel's Arc GPUs, as these cards are designed for laptop devices, and laptops often include weaker hardware that benefits from digital upscaling features.
XeSS will compete with NVIDIA's 'DLSS' and AMD's 'FSR,' as each of these technologies were designed for digital AI-powered upscaling. Intel has stated that its XeSS technology will be on the driver side of the computer similar to AMD's FSR, meaning it will work on a wide variety of software, regardless of whether or not the software was designed to support XeSS.
