'AMD RSR' is a digital resolution upscaling feature that will reportedly work at the driver level. The current super resolution technology that AMD uses is named 'FSR' or 'Fidelity Super Resolution,' which is software that works only by being integrated into certain applications. 'Radeon Super Resolution' (RSR) though, will work at the driver level, meaning any image displayed on the screen is capable of employing RSR technology.
RSR is meant to be a competitor to Nvidia's 'Deep Learning Super Sampling' (DLSS) feature which also operates on a software level and must be enabled in applications individually. However, DLSS improves performance on games by as much as 50% whereas FSR does not reach these numbers. RSR, on the other hand, will reportedly increase performance on games by up to 70% when using an AMD 6000 series graphics card. RSR is slated to be released in its first form in Q1 of 2022 and will likely release in March.
