American Airlines is Updating Its In-Plane Wifi System
Daniel Johnson — June 26, 2019 — Autos
American Airlines will be offering in-plane wifi throughout its mainline fleet. It will be deploying new satellite-based internet access to over 700 aircraft, most of which fly domestic routes. Passengers will either have one of two connection systems -- the first bing Gogo 2Ku, and the second being ViaSat Ka.
Both of the in-plane wifi options will provide a better connection than gound solutions, which were previously in use. The airline started using satellite broadband wifi for its widebody aircraft approximately a year ago.
American Airlines will also offer power outlets to each seat for its mainline, as well as two-class regional fleets. Tablet holders will also be added to American Airlines' narrowbody fleet. The company is looking to integrate technology to provide better inflight entertainment to its passengers.
