Chinese architectural practice Wang Chong Studio builds a stunning yet inconspicuous art museum in the Henan Province of China. The institution is named Taihang Xinyu Art Museum and the design of its structure is quite impressive as it effortlessly blends into its mountainside surroundings thanks to a strategic formal choice for the material, color palette, and the shape of the architectural silhouette.
When Wang Chong Studio was embarking on this inconspicuous art museum project, the site was partially occupied by an existing warehouse that the firm worked to preserve. The existing structure was extended and incorporated into Wang Chong Studio's plans for the site. This allowed for the history of the region to be preserved. Additionally, the firm relied heavily on recycled local stone to bring the vision for the Taihang Xinyu Art Museum to life.
