The IKEA SOLVINDEN Lamp is Powered by Sun and Wind
Meghan Young — February 15, 2012 — Eco
While flat-pack furniture designs are already very eco-conscious, the IKEA SOLVINDEN pendant lamp takes it up a couple of notches. It is an outdoor lighting alternative that is powered by the sun and wind. The IKEA SOLVINDEN lamp takes nine to 12 hours of sunlight or 24 hours with a wind speed of 4 miles per second to become fully charged and stays lit for 24 hours. The lifetime of the bulbs are approximately 20,000 hours. IKEA writes, "As we figured it, if the sun isn’t shining, the wind is probably blowing. So, it would be a good idea if the lamp could be powered by the wind, too."
The IKEA SOLVINDEN pendant lamp has a festive, ribbon-inspired look that would add a touch of structured whimsy to any outdoor setting.
