This hybrid electric bus is capable of recharging at bus stops in a matter of just minutes. Currently in service in a suburb of Södertälje in Sweden, the electric buses power back up with an invisible charger on the last stop of its route. A full charge takes only 6 or 7 minutes.
The charging station, which is owned and operated by Vattenhall, must be able to charge vehicles quickly in order to prevent timetables from being disrupted. The hybrid electric bus also charges overnight. The program is possible due to a partnership with the city of Södertälje, bus manufacturer Scania and the Royal Institute of Technology. Hidden chargers, which use renewable energy, are used purely for esthetic purposes, as opposed to overhead wires or plug-in areas.
This initiative endeavors to the country reach their goal of being free of fossil fuels by 2030.
