Architecture studio Fernanda Canales has designed the House for the Elderly, which is a semi-open community center for the elderly. It is located in Neco, Mexico, and is defined by its circular form with minimal materials. The space was initiated at 450 square feet and is designed to be welcoming for the community members with access to both health and social services.
The team shares more on the choice to build on the small and angular plot which is comprised of two main structures -- one of which is rectangular and the other circular. They note, https://www.dezeen.com/2024/10/25/fernanda-canales-circular-mexican-community-centre. Thus, the centerpiece is the circular building, located in the widest part of the plot, and the small rectangular block serves as a second access and transition zone to generate different gradients between the public, semi-public, and private."
