Hungarian design studios Hetedik Műterem and Studio Konstella work together to renovate and add an extension to the Normafa Ski Lodge restaurant. This is located in Normafa Park in Budapest and is defined by the shingle-clad pavilion that brings forth a sense of the purity of a mountain hut, as described by the studios. The lodge is heritage-protected and now it has a restaurant that dates as far back as the 30s.
Project architect András Bartha speaks to Dezeen about the process, stating "The building itself was aggregating many layers of different modifications throughout the decades, making it less and less open to public access. We found a very rational and elegant space structure at its core, which was easy to follow, and restore. The biggest challenge was to remove all the unwanted clutter from the building, while preserving the essence of the place."
