New Zealand’s very own hobbit pub opened up just in time to celebrate the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey this December 14th.
The Green Dragon, which opened up last month, was officially opened by John Kay, the prime minister of New Zealand. The hobbit pub is located near Matamata, the original set of the filming for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the recent Hobbit movies.
As “a place to drink, a place to meet, a place to rest your hairy feet,” the warm ambiance of the restaurant reflects the friendly Shire and its Shirelings. Although The Green Dragon is modeled after Hobbiton, people need not worry as the ceiling height has been extended to accommodate the long-legged elves, rangers and humans of Middle Earth.
