LEGO's New Minifigures Wear Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyards
LEGO works with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative to create the first minifigures that are wearing special lanyards. These indicate that the wearer has a non-visible condition which can vary including autism or dementia. There are three sets that feature the characters wearing the lanyard around their necks. The first features a child with a teddy bear, a suitcase, and an airport check-in desk. Another set features a colorful airport with a taxi, a small dog, and other characters.
Charity explains, "We hope those who know someone who wears it will feel connection, and those who don't know about it yet will feel inquisitive to find out more and ask questions – to raise awareness of this symbol and what it means to the many people who wear it. From research, we know how important it is for children to see themselves in the toys they play with. We feel we have a responsibility and an opportunity with our platform to work together with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to raise awareness, create conversation and remove stigma."
