I am noticing an increasing trend of top male fashion designers flaunting their own physique. From Marc Jacobs parading his new lean body shirtless in numerous recent editorials and shoots to this exclusive interview and accompanying shoot of Tom Ford in the latest issue of Prestige Hong Kong. The intimate shots, which Ford describes as his favorite, were taken by photographer Jeff Burton.
As the cover promises, “The Man in Full” explores Ford from head to toe. He discusses his memories of growing up and his fascination with fashion, his partner Richard and their plans to adopt a son, his feelings about being nominated for a Council of Fashion Designers of America Award for his own brand, his feelings about Karl Lagerfeld, how he’d like to dress Barack Obama, his decision to leave the fashion world in 2004, his diet and workout, how he doesn’t bathe for three or four days (I am glad I am not the only one!!), his philosophy on mens wear and if he will ever design a suit for a woman.
The interview is a fascinating read that gives you an insight into the mind and heart of one of the most important designers of our time. Read the full article here.
Finally, I have to say that Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford do have the body to go along with such shoots, Karl Lagerfeld: please do not do it!
