Marking World Hand Hygiene Day on May 5, Qatar's Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation and the Primary Health Care Corporation, will launch an awareness campaign, "Accelerate action together. Save Lives – Clean Your Hands". The campaign seeks to heighten the pace of infection prevention efforts, antimicrobial resistance, and foster a culture emphasizing safety, quality, and prioritized hand hygiene in healthcare.
By rallying healthcare facilities and workers in Qatar, the initiative intends to enhance the country's commitment to hygiene and prevent infection. The campaign's five-second hand-cleaning drive involves health practitioners, policymakers, and those receiving care. Its primary objectives are to amplify actions towards improving hand hygiene, foster collaboration among individuals and organizations to minimize infection risk, and devise strategies against antimicrobial resistance.
Managed by the MoPH's Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Department's National Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial resistance (IPC/AMR) Unit, the campaign includes distributing educational materials on hand hygiene and infection prevention, and presenting guidance via display screens in public areas and on social media. The World Health Organization highlights that adherence to hand hygiene can prevent up to 50% of acquired infections, reaffirming the significance of this campaign.
