Goldman Sachs Employees Protest Full Return to Office Mandates

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon recently mandated a full five-day return to office schedule; however, on the day the giant office reopened its US office, nearly half of employees continued to work from home.
Solomon states his belief is that in-person interactions are essential to the bank’s apprenticeship culture. The bank's operating mode -- referred to as “the ecosystem of the firm” by Solomon -- includes bringing on roughly 3,000 new college graduates every year. They learn from experienced mentors and build networks face-to-face. In addition, the experience also encourages teamwork, which is central to the firm’s culture. Solomon maintains this culture will be lost with the shift to remote work.
Many believe the effect of remote and hybrid work models on career growth remains to be seen, however, it's certainly true that a flexible work schedule is a better strategy for long-term employee retention.
