UK supermarket Morrisons is reintroducing glass milk bottles into circulation in order to reduce plastic pollution. The eco-friendly initiative will be trialed in 11 Morrisons locations, seven in Kent and four in the Sheffield area, before a tentative nationwide rollout. The glass milk bottles are a nod to the nostalgia of the milk deliveries of the 1920s. Morrisons hopes to capitalize on this nostalgia through this push for plastic-free bottles.
If successfully implemented, the glass milk bottles would replace 40,000 plastic bottles per year in Morrisons supermarkets and prevent carbon emissions. To expedite the rollout, the grocery brand is working closely with local dairy farmers to undertake the switch. Due to glass milk bottles' durability, they could remain in circulation for 10+ years.
