The Gila Board Has Fully Adjustable Independent Suspension
Rahul Kalvapalle — March 3, 2015 — Autos
While off-road skateboards aren't a novel invention in themselves, what makes the Gila Board unique is the fact that is doesn't have a motor but instead is equipped with a novel fully adjustable independent suspension system.
Rather than being mounted on traditional skateboard trucks, the Gila Board's wheels are connected to pivoting struts and a coil-over shock absorber. This allows each individual wheel to move and up and down with the terrain independent of the other wheels.
The spring rate of each shock can be individual adjusted to accommodate different body weights and riding styles. Users can also customize how much force is needed to lean the deck to one side or the other relative to the wheels.
The Gila Board is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign. A pledge of $995 will get you one of these lean, mean, stable riding machines.
