The Future Hotel Experience is an ongoing project between MIT's Mobile Experience Lab and Marriott Hotels that started in 2012. One of the newest things to come from the partnership is the Six Degrees app, which is connected to a series of installations in the hotel to encourage interaction within its various parts. To encourage people to interact with one another in real time, the Six Degrees app has users fill out a short profile, which matches personal and professional details to similar travelers. From there, groups of people can then interact with objects like LED tables for an extra level of ice-breaking.
Throughout June, Marriott will be testing the app around the MIT Campus, with an end goal of implementing the app at all 500 Mariott locations.
