Sonia Rykiel Fall 2018 Was Presented with a Bananarama Soundtrack

As the models for Sonia Rykiel's Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear collection strutted down the runway with fur fashion pieces, head-to-toe layered checkered patterns and tight motorcycle-inspired leather jackets, an iconic British pop group was playing a three-song gig. To celebrate the fashion house's 50th anniversary, the creative director of Sonia Rykiel tapped Bananarama—a well-known pop group from the early 80s, that recently launched a reunion tour in the US and the UK.
By commissioning an authentically vintage pop group for a runway presentation, Sonia Rykiel did something different. The fashion house did inject vintage motifs within the clothing ensembles, the fur fashion pieces and even the hair and makeup of the models—however, Sonia Rykiel went one step further by ultimately transporting the audience to the 80s with auditory stimuli, instead of interpretation-only clothing designs.
