The 'Folding Foropter' has been created as an accessible, low-cost solution for those in developing nations to effectively test vision without the need for traditional phoropter equipment. Consisting of two folding paper tubes and a lens, the device works by being held over one eye and having the tube extended until clear vision is achieved. Markings on the exterior of the paper sleeve will then allow administrators to see where their vision is on the scale to prescribe the appropriate prescription for their needs.
The 'Folding Foropter' is the design work of Ashish Jain of the LVPEI Center of Innovation in India and also features a friendly, inviting exterior pattern that will make it more appealing for patients to use.
