The Studio Octopi Constructs a Levitating Pool for the Yarra River
M — May 28, 2016 — Art & Design
The Studio Octopi has put together an innovative floating swimming pool located in Melbourne, Australia that is located inside the Yarra River as a way to return the popular summer activity to natural bodies of water. The pool is designed as a community space for consumers to gather in and enjoy naturally cleaned water from the river in a segmented space that is still connected to the water. The pool creatively floats slightly higher than the river with an infinity pool aesthetic.
The project was designed for the Yarra Swim Co and is fittingly known as the Yarra Pool. While a man-made swimming hole, the pool's floating structure allows it to remain connected to the river. The water sourced to the pool's elevated platform is pulled from the river and purified for year round swimming.
