The 'In Tents: The After Party' Festival Fashion Repurpose Tents
Laura McQuarrie — August 14, 2019 — Eco
The aftermath of a festival is often made up of everything from abandoned tents to tons of litter and these festival fashion designs showcase pieces of clothing and jewelry made from upcycled materials. In Tents: The After Party is a collaborative collection from London College of Fashion graduate Chloe Baines and Central Saint Martins graduate Belle Smith that includes tops, dresses and skirts made from discarded tents, ropes and metal pegs.
The idea for the collection came to Baines after attending the 2018 British Boomtown festival and seeing a staggering number of tents left behind—so many, in fact, that Baines describes: "There were so many tents left behind that it looked as though nobody else had actually left." Seeing that some of the tents were stitched together, the designer was inspired to create clothing in a similar way.
