While electric vehicles are quickly becoming all the rage, the fact of the matter is that many existing EV chargers aren't quite able to juice up these vehicles as fast as their owners would like unless they compromise on compactness or overall usability, but the advent of Continental Engineering's new robotic EV charging system is set to well and truly abolish that problem.
Developed as part of a collaboration with Volterio, the Continental EV charger comprises a charging plate that's attached to the floor and a receiver that can be mounted under the vehicle. When the vehicle is driven atop the charging surface, the components link up using short-distance radio and forge a connection.
What's great about this robotic EV charger system is that it operates from a compact, floor-mounted mechanism and makes use of physical connections rather than wireless charging, which often causes inefficiencies in the charging process.
