Walmart announced a new partnership with 'Canoo,' which outlines the retail giant's agreement to purchase over 4,500 electric delivery vans. The beginning of the partnership will see Walmart purchasing 4,500 of Canoo's delivery vehicles. However, going forward, Walmart stipulated that it maintains the option to purchase 5,500 more in the future, bringing the total up to 10,000 delivery vans.
Canoo will begin producing its electric delivery vans on a mass scale in late 2022, and the vehicles are expected to hit the streets for business purposes in mid-2023. At this point, the vehicles will undergo a large amount of real-world testing through partnerships with various retail stores, such as Walmart. However, early testing for Canoo prototypes shows the vans to be safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery solutions.
Tony Aquila, Chairman and CEO of Canoo, stated "We are proud to have been selected by Walmart, one of the most sophisticated buyers in the world, to provide our high-tech, all-electric, American-made Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle to add to their impressive logistics capabilities."
