The Edge of Time is a collection of illustrations by Breslau, Poland-based artist Artur Sadlos for a book of the same name.
The illustrations depict intricately rendered environs in a decidedly steampunk style. Overlapping mounds of gears upon gears give way to brick walls snaking their way through narrow streets. The illustration for the front cover features a man and women running pensively down a twisted street in the foreground while in the background, buildings and strange contraptions are set upon one another to create a towering mountain of brass and brick.
The paleo-futurist qualities of this genre easily evoke curiosity and whimsy. They harken back to Victorian-era technology and aesthetics, and extend such technology and aesthetics past the present into the future, creating a world that never was and never will be.
One shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but this Sadlos cover art is hard not to.
