Birmingham-based Edgar Askelovic, also recognized as 'Aspencrow,' created a strikingly lifelike full-sized sculpture of Conor McGregor. The piece is entitled 'ATLAS' and was originally created in celebration of the UFC fighter's upcoming 30th birthday. ATLAS is said to be worth about $66,000 and will be gifted to McGregor for his birthday. Two other statues will be showcased and sold by the JD Malat Gallery in London.
The marble pieces show McGregor coming out of a block and Askelovic explains that it took him five months to construct the piece. The sculpture is 100 kg and Askelovic took references only through photographs of the fighter. He used materials including marble powder, platinum silicone and UV-resistant polyurethane resin to create the eyes and real hair to imitate McGregor's hair and beard.
