This System Adds VTOL Capabilities to Fixed-Wing Drones

VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) drones have a range of advantages due to their ability to take off and land in compact spaces without requiring a runway or lots of space, but the fact of the matter is that they tend to have lower ranges than fixed-wing drones, which is why Insitu and Oregon-based Hood Tech have launched a high-tech drone system that manages to combine the best of both worlds.
This drone system takes the form of a package that includes Insitu's 'Integrated' fixed-wing drone and the 'FLARES' (Flying Launch and Recovery System) created by Hood Tech.
It is believed that Insitu's 'Integrated' drone offers the capability of being able to fly for up to 16 hours whilst carrying a payload of 18 kg, something that is said to be impossible of the drone had a permanently embedded VTOL system adding weight to it.
