Taking on a DIY staircase project might seem like a daunting task, but the HomeMade Modern blog is out to prove that it doesn't have to be as complicated as it seems. Recently, Ben Uyeda of HomeMade Modern put together a video for a 'DIY Spiral Staircase made with a CNC,' as well as a set of free CAD files that can be used to further simplify the process.
For the project, layers of furniture-grade plywood are used to create a dynamic sculpture that's also useful for vertical circulation within the home. Each step is made from a total of 12 layers of plywood, which can be easily cut from a CNC machine using the downloadable templates provided as part of the project.
While the project is labor-intensive, it yields a pleasing result that will appeal to modern makers.
