The New Cultural House of Pinhel is a Stunning Revamped Palace
Rebecca Byers — March 23, 2015 — Art & Design
Architecture and design firm depA recently renovated a magnificent 18th-century palace in Pinhel, Portugal to create an out-of-this-world cultural house. The Bishop's Palace was revamped by depA in order to make way for a museum honoring artist and comic book illustrator Jose Manuel Soares.
A unique noteworthy feature of the new cultural house is a mirrored rectangular ticket booth at the museum's entrance that serves to highlight the palace's architectural features rather than drawing attention to its new tourism features. A portion of the building had previously been transformed into a subdivision to provide student housing.
The interior of the museum has been almost entirely reworked by depA, with the firm having recreated the patron's route through the museum experience.
