Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters team are known for exposing flawed myths through science and unique testing. There are some myths, however, that even the Mythbusters can’t touch. In the first two minutes of this video clip, Adam Savage speaks to a group at the HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) conference about why Mythbusters hasn’t aired a segment on RFID security.
RFID, or radio-frequency identification, is an automatic identification method that uses tags and readers. Tags can be incorporated into a product, like access cards, or an animal, like livestock tags or pet microchips, to help with identification. The Mythbusters segment purportedly discussed the flaws in RFID security, and credit card companies quickly and mightily lawyered up to ensure Discovery Channel would never air it.
