Based in Toronto, The Shop is a creative studio and makerspace -- a wood shop, ceramics and craft space all in one. Co-founded by designers Michelle Organ and Marissa Gordon, The Shop not only nurtures community, but also gives people the opportunity to make, learn and sell. Inspired by the camaraderie they felt in art school, the pair decided to establish their own creative studio for people to participate and 'Shop the Shop.'
Trend Hunter recently visited the makerspace and did a shibori dyeing workshop, just one of the hands-on workshops and corporate events The Shop offers. Similar to tie-dye, shibori is a Japanese technique of dying fabric and textiles with indigo ink. This not only enabled the Trend Hunter team to flex their crafting skills, it was also a team-building event not soon forgotten.
