New York-based design studio Chen Chen and Kai Williams work together to create the Craighill Sidewinder pocket knife. It is a compact structure that folds out and has what the studio describes as a "kinetic sculpture moonlighting as a knife." The namesake draws inspiration from the tracks that are left in the sand by Crotalus cerastes, which is the sidewinder rattlesnake.
The sand is detailed with an oscillating pattern and the knife features this visual by integrating the interlocked mechanical hilt made up of two opposing parts connected with the blade. The Craighill knife is activated with push of a lever, moving itself forward. It opens concurrently and along with the same serrated section before it interlocks into the right position for a secure feel.
