3x1 & Joe Doucet Redesigned Jeans with an Updated Pocket System
Laura McQuarrie — September 17, 2019 — Fashion
3x1 collaborated with Joe Doucet to create contemporary jeans with an updated pocket system to better accomodate the technology people use today. As Doucet describes, "The classic five-pocket jean we all know and love is really a piece of 19th-century technology designed for workmen."
The redesigned jeans are made with stretch selvedge denim from Kurabo and are complete with microfiber pockets to clean and protect devices and a larger coin pocket lined with RFID-blocking fabric to hold payment cards. The adapted design also includes a 3M singular reflective black strip that serves as a subtle yet potentially life-saving feature for commuting in low light conditions. As these changed design details were not implemented for aesthetic purposes, the overall look of the classic pocket system remains yet better serves today's consumers.
