Karl Lagerfeld presented the Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2012 collection in an airplane-themed show in Paris. The show took place in a low, concave-ceilinged room with airplane seats for the attendees, in addition to windows and a dull blue carpet that replicates the monochromatic setting of a real jetliner. The collection is also monochromatic in nature, with various shades of blue accompanying white and black looks, at times with dramatic and puffy sleeves.
The monochromatic color scheme of the line contributes to the airplane theme due to its seemingly uniform feel. The Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2012 collection is also rich with texture, providing a plethora of beaded, embroidered, feathered and tulle detailing. This is not the first time Karl Lagerfeld has used an airplane theme in his show, as the Chanel Resort 2008 collection was presented in an airplane hangar, with models parading down the catwalk after exiting a just-landed plane.
