Williamsburg's Brooklyn Brewery recently signed a deal to turn the Brooklyn Navy Yard into a site of a new rooftop beer garden. Following the lead of other cities, the new drinking establishment will help to reinvigorate one of New York's industrial areas.
Along with a retail shop, bakery and shipping center, the Brooklyn Navy Yard will soon be home to a 75,000-square-foot brewery and rooftop bar. The brewery will be located on the ground-floor of a newly renovated building, close to the company's Barrel Aging Facility. Although Brooklyn Brewery will continue producing beer at its original location, the Navy Yard outpost will act as a new attraction for residents the area.
The move demonstrates how businesses such as breweries can help to transform neighborhoods once reserved for industrial purposes.
