Bo Lundvang has found an interesting way to use rust in his artwork. The Swedish artist, who is also a writer for the car magazine Bilsport (and has been labeled a "media polymath"), has created as series of artworks using oxidized rust that feature popular cars.
Showcasing vehicles like the Dodge Charger, the Koenigsegg CCX and the Lamborghini Aventador, Bo Lundvang's art involves first creating the image via a computer program. He then sends the image to be turned into a stencil, which is made from adhesive vinyl., and the stencil is subsequently attached to a 3-by-1 1/2-feet piece of bare steel. Finally, the artist speeds up oxidation and the formation of rust through a special process (that he wants to keep secret) and in the end, the stencil is removed, revealing an image that "stands in smooth, gray steel against a background of deeply textured rust," describes the New York Times.
