In name, the Black Barn might conjure images of animals, manure and mess, but this is certainly not what you get within this contemporary project. Built upon the site of an older farming structure, the building was designed based on the form and proportions of the traditional Slovenian hayrack, yet it was erected for quite civilized activities.
Located in Šentrupert of the Lower Carniola region, this minimalist dwelling takes the simplified pitched-roof style in shape. To keep the dark volume from appearing too imposing in the landscape, Arhitektura DOO opened up the base with long spans of windowing on both sides; the countryside seems to continue straight through at ground level. The Black Barn is used primarily as a place of retreat and for the occasional meeting by the businessman who owns it.
