The Smart Harbor Competition asked architects to revitalize the Pesaro, Italy, waterfront with a refreshed built environment and ensuing tourism. Beyond the Clouds is one of the fascinating proposals that strives to work with, rather than against, the existing features on the plot.
Consisting of Zuhal Kol, Jose Luis Hidalgo and Carlos Zarco Sanz, this team wanted to touch the site as lightly as possible, preserving many of the existing industrial features from the shipbuilding past and striving to create something that wouldn't become another permanent layer on the city. Their solution was the introduction of soft infrastructure in the form of balloon-like wind turbines on secure cables. Beyond the Clouds becomes a whimsical monument and contributes to a greener future.
