Developed by Disney Research and a student engineering team at ETH Zürich, Beachbot is an incredible robot that is able to leave impressive sand drawings on the beach. The bot is able to create sand art by dragging several pins behind it, just like a sand artist would do with a rake. When it comes to the variations the bot is able to create, the pins can be individually raised or lowered in order to create lines in the sand that are of different thicknesses.
Another impressive thing about the Beachbot is that it rolls around on innovative balloon-like wheels, without leaving any trace of its own tracks. The bot can be pre-programmed to create art, and thanks to inertial measurement unit technology, the bot is able to sense depth and understand its own position on the sand canvas. Alternatively, the bot can also be used live like a pen on a paper by an artist.
