A 32-year-old woman had to be rescued from a polar bear enclosure at the Berlin Zoo after attempting to ‘take a bath’ in the moat. She was able to climb past a fence, a line of prickly hedges and a wall to gain access to the moat.
Several zoo keepers were able to throw the woman ropes with flotation devices attached in a frenzied effort to save her from a potential attack. As seen in this video, she sustained injuries to her arms and legs before finally escaping.
World famous polar bear ‘Knut’, the zoo’s baby bear that became an international celebrity in 2007, was in the same enclosure.
