Myceen Designs the New B Wise Pendant-Shaped Lampshades

Tallinn-based materials brand Myceen introduces its new B Wise lampshades that are made from mycelium and were recently showcased during Dutch Design Week. It takes on a bell-shaped silhouette and is made form the vegetative part of the mushroom and the structure is supported from conventional plywood and aluminum.
Co-Founder of Myceen, Siim Karro talks about the design to Dezeen, stating that the "Inoculated material goes into the mould and after a few days, the material is strong enough to hold itself together [...] the fungi recognize its fellow specie companion and form a strong connection without any glue or artificial binders and the growth of the fungi is stopped completely by drying the material."
