American Idol is supposed to be about organic talent, so it’s no wonder some fans of the reality show are fuming after discovering their favourite singers lip-sync in their group performances.
While American Idol first tried to deny that contestants lip-sync their group routines, they were forced to confess after former contestant Justin Guarini pointed it out on Idol Wrap.
Manfred Westphal, a spokesman for American Idol said, “Due to extensive choreography and to balance their voices with open mikes against a screaming audience, the Idols do sing along to their own prerecorded vocal track during the group performances only.”
American Idol reps still claim solo performances are real and never lip synced, but you can bet fans will be keeping a very close eye out for it.
